When I set out to learn about my mother's bridge club, the Jewish octogenarians behind the matching outfits and accessories, I never expected to fall in love with them. This is the story of the ladies, their game, their gen, and the ragged path that led me back to my mother.
Guys: CHeck this out. I finished watching the last episode of Breaking Bad Season Four and started googling myself and by that I mean surfing the web. I found a little movie some guy called Brandon made of Food and Loathing. It mocks all the most important scenes and an Asian teenager plays me, Betsy Lerner. I just want to say that this kid really made my day. This sort of mockery is what it’s all about. I deserve it. I love it. I eat my own vomit. If you feel like having a laugh, at my expense, check it out. I gotta go to St. Dunkins and buy a box of munchkins.

Epic face blurs for everyone!
well, i’ll be damned. susan and i just finished watching the third man, so we’ll be back tomorrow to watch this, with a big tub of salted and buttered popcorn and a jug of moonshine to wash it down. i can’t tell you how excited we are. we’ve already reserved our seats.
okay, so… we got the popcorn and we got the moonshine and damn that was fun. a side of betsy we never could have imagined. and a hell of a lot more entertaining and a hell of a lot less offensive than that 14-minute you tuber we watched last week.
Ha! As if you weren’t infamous before! So does this answer your lifelong question of who would play you in a movie of your life? Surely this will lead to an invite on stage for next year’s Academy Award for Best Short. Start writing that speech.
Oh Betsy/Dylan! You were lovely! Haven’t read Food and Loathing but am now wondering if there is a film made about the different writer mindsets of The Forest for the Trees??
This was pretty funny. Sometimes Betsy was referred to as a he and sometimes a she which makes even more funny. And the weed! Haaa, haaaa. Are memoirs still big sellers? There is no way I am writing mine unless it will be published after my death.
I think the market for memoir is alive and well!

For a satire on obsession that video was oddly boring. But your book sure wasn’t. A satire, or boring.
I think the video was a good satire. These kids got it right: when we can no longer laugh at our own demons, perhaps they start laughing at us.
Haven’t read Food and Loathing .., but I gotta believe there was something about the title – maybe – that drew them to it. Still, not a likely group of readers IMHO…, It was amusing to watch at any rate. (the epic face blur was hilarious)
I give the video a rating of 3 Chocolate covered donuts. The tune was catchy and I could dance to it with a full mouth planted firmly in cheek.
From this monumental achievement in film one thing, one important gesture rises above all else, standing out as an affront best used in all parody, the ‘epic face blur’ but not just any ‘epic face blur’ but the one best expressed by the use of the middle-finger epic face blur.
I am humbled by the ingenuity of these future film makers. I salute…no wait, I do not just salute…I raise my epic middle-finger salute to them, to patient # 4 and to all of us.

WordPress is being weird about letting comments through, and it is them, not individual blogs. One person I share commenting with regularly, informed me that she found a bunch of my comments in spam. I think if she had put my name on her spam list, she wouldn’t have told me about it, and yeah, I was getting paranoid because I comment on a lot of political pages. But it totally is WordPress. Have you tried to contact their customer service? Joke.

Betsy my dear, (God that sounds so old-ladyish) you at 110lbs…that’s only a few pounds more than what I have lost. My daughter has as well. We’ve maintained for two years. I think I’ve figured the whole weight thing out; ‘think’ is the operative word.
My daughter, (the one which just got married), looks like a model and I’ve gone from a 46D to a 38 long. At my age my body looks like a melted candle…and not a taper. Boobs…a couple of milkshakes in a baggie. I love that I’m healthy; I just wish I had done this years ago. I have not read Food and Loathing but after watching your interview I now understand why your blog is different, why it offers us something more. You may never be my agent, (God-dammit), but you certainly are my mentor.
How’s that for fucking honesty? And I’m not even hungry.
