Bridge Ladies When I set out to learn about my mother's bridge club, the Jewish octogenarians behind the matching outfits and accessories, I never expected to fall in love with them. This is the story of the ladies, their game, their gen, and the ragged path that led me back to my mother.

Joy to the Fishes in the Deep Blue Sea

Does the name Paul Sheldon ring a bell? Well, I just had my one celebratory smoke upon completing the project I’ve been working on. I believe I also had a MilkyWay Bar. Please don’t let anyone tell you I don’t know how to live. And two pieces of pizza. And like the pack.

How do you celebrate?

  1. Good to know I’m not the only celebratory cigarette person out there.

  2. I like to dress up for an expensive meal by myself in a fancy restaurant & I always eat dessert.

  3. Celebrate like no one is watching and enjoy the happiness!

  4. Yes, the name does ring a bell.

How I celebrate . . . I take a photo of the ms printed out. I used to have a beer, sometimes I still do. I revel in the feeling of freedom, I sleep better, get up in a better mood. You don’t know how tied to it you are, until you’re free of it. For the moment anyway.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! (on my latest project, I’ve been stuck at 15K for months)

  5. Veuve and Chinese food, with the A list, on a city rooftop.

  6. When I turned my book in I celebrated by skipping my nightly glass of wine and broke the habit!

  7. A pig foot and a bottle of beer.

    And congratulations!

  8. “How do you celebrate?”

Irish whiskey, fine cognac, cheesecake, ice cream — not all at the same time.

All names ring bells. I’ve heard too many. Names and bells. Congratulations. You probably know to never eat chocolate and smoke tobacco at the same time.

  9. I celebrate mostly in a brief wallow in quiet satisfaction. It doesn’t last long because a rejection letter is always on its way, but it’s good while it does last.

  10. Congratulations, Betsy! Okie Doke donuts always do it for me.
