• Forest for the Trees
  • THE FOREST FOR THE TREES is about writing, publishing and what makes writers tick. This blog is dedicated to the self loathing that afflicts most writers. A community of like-minded malcontents gather here. I post less frequently now, but hopefully with as much vitriol. Please join in! Gluttons for punishment can scroll through the archives.

If I’ve learned one thing about writers, it’s this: we really are all alone. Thanks for reading. Love, Betsy

I Can See All Obstacles in My Way

Finished the fucker last week. Hold your applause. But, yes, thank you. Any toe over any finishing line is worth celebrating. I had a plate of spaghetti.

What do you do to celebrate finishing a book?

  1. Reading one or writing one? πŸ˜‰

  2. “What do you do to celebrate finishing a book?”

I like Debbie’s question above. I will proceed under the assumption that the question refers to finishing the writing of a book.

I don’t celebrate. Now I have to find a publisher for the fucker.

And anyway, there are more to finish. Time to get back in the ring and fight the next round.

  3. Well – not that I know Betsy all that well, but I hardly doubt she’d have a plate of spaghetti because she finished reading a book. πŸ™‚

I print it out, and then stare at it while having a beer. (fortifying myself for the editing to come)

  4. I most definitely celebrate- I have finished one (but it’s a start). Anyway, I brought out sparkling wine and dark chocolate brownies.

  5. Champagne, always. I celebrate if I finish a poem, let alone a book. Then I pour over it a hundred times (there’s never really a “finished line.”)
    Congratulations, Betsy! Savor the moment.

  6. Um, well after I finish a book I buy lottery tickets. I figure my odds of traditional publishing fiction are about the same as winning the lottery. First person essay, I’m your writer. Articles, columns, I’m your writer. Fiction…I’m not giving up yet.

Hey, time to buy some lottery tickets.

  7. Spaghetti sounds good. A long walk and a satisfied smile is nice, too. Congratulations!

  8. Yay Betsy! What did I do after I finished my book? I got an agent. (finally) Hot damn!

  9. Kudos and congratulations! I’ve done nothing of consequence in the past (aside from succumbing to self-doubt and shoving them in a drawer for 7 years), but this time I will be celebrating…reading and eating sounds about right.

  10. Hi thankks for sharing this
