GIVE IT UP FOR ONE OF OUR OWN!

Took this off the web, not entirely sure it’s SHana.
PEN Emerging Voices Fellow Shanna Mahin’s OH! YOU PRETTY THINGS, a roman a clef about a young woman in L.A. whose efforts to escape the manic orbit of her former child-star mother land her in the employ of one of the hottest starlets in Hollywood, to Dutton, in a significant deal.
You know, every once in a great while I actually feel completely happy for someone else. When I read in Publisher’s Marketplace that Shanna sold her novel I felt like this was the best motherfucking news I had heard in a long time. How many drafts, revisions, xanax? How many therapy sessions, break ups, tantrums, reams of paper, forests felled? How much blood? How many tears? And what about lift off? Days when you get out of your way, where there is a direct line from your brain to the words. When it all finally starts to happen on the page. ANd someone says, yes, we would like to publish your book. Our little girls is growing up. ! Give it up for Shana! Congrats girl! Don’t forget the little people!

I read her news on Facebook, but multiple congratulations are in order for such fabulous news! Never give up. Never surrender.
Congratulations!
All the best to Shanna, and to all who keep on trippin’.
It’s me on my wedding day in 2010, but it’s me with two hours of hair and makeup and the benefit of what the photographer called a “beauty light.” I’m planning on using my advance to hire someone to follow me around with one whenever I leave the house.
I love you so much. And you know I don’t toss that shit around lightly.
I’ve never met her—never met any of the wonderful writers I’ve met in your comments section Ms Lerner. No matter. I’m proud of Shana and every other writer who never stops.
Ever.
Congratulations Shanna! Funny, I knew the name, then the face, so must have seen it here – or somewhere launched form here! Very exciting for you!!!
Oh, you pretty thing! Shanna, it’s about fucking time. (And I say that because as anyone who has trolled this particular blog for years can say, you have major writing chops.)
I can’t wait to buy a shitload of copies and give them to everyone I know. xo
Oh! You Pretty Things, indeed. The biggest of congratulations and margaritas to our Shanna —- well earned, my dear.
That’s terrific! Congratulations!
It’s great news! Congratulations Shanna.
Congrats Shanna – and the book sounds great. So when can we buy it?
Oh my God how flipping wonderful. Everybody have another round on me. I guess dreams do come true. Congratulations sweetie you deserve it.
Hooray for Shana!
Great news! Congratulations, Shana!
It couldn’t have happened to a nicer, more deserving person. For once, fate and fairness meet on the same page. Shanna has always been so supportive of me, so kind and encouraging, but that’s her MO (along with a low tolerance for idiocy and dishonesty, to keep things from getting too saccharine).
Shanna, you don’t need a photographer following you with a beauty light; you are lit from within.
To clarify: since she’s a fab writer, she’d deserve this deal even if she were a bitch, but it’s just too damn wonderful that she’s not. 🙂
Congrats Shanna, for proving that raw talent and endless hard work will eventually be rewarded. And also, that a little agorophobia might be a good thing? 😉 Wonderful.
I know this manic orbit and it really is a bitch to escape. Congrats, Shanna! May your success inspire others.
Shanna! Congratulations!
Excellent news! Hearty congratulations. And re: that beauty light…
Shanna! You did it. Rock on with your big, bad self.
“….to Dutton, in a significant deal.” Yeah! Congratulations, Shanna!
Shanna, This is so cool! Congratulations to you. I hope your reading tour brings you to the Boston area. By the way, Porter Square Books in Cambridge is a fabulous reading venue. (And thanks for cluing us all in to the “beauty light.” I’m in line to purchase.)
Awww, thanks, you guys. You are my people.
I really love having multiple outlets on which to congratulate you my dear Shanna and see all the other love you’re getting! xoxo
I met Shanna at a Creative Non-Fiction Writers Workshop at Goucher College one summer. We were in a memoir class with Kristen Iverson. Everyone in that class knew that Shanna was a star. I LOVED her writing and I loved her and I am sooooo happy to hear this news. Rock on, Shanna; rock on, girl!
Such wonderful news!! Congratulations!!
Congratulations! Great news!
Shanna, this is such great news. Can’t wait to read it. You’re one of the reasons I kept reading this blog after discovering it too many years ago. I’m so happy for you!
Admiring the hard work you put into your blog and in depth information you present.
It’s awesome to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the
same unwanted rehashed information. Excellent read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m including your
RSS feeds to my Google account.
