The results are in. Sheri Booker has spoken. The top three winners of the funeral contest are:
FIRST: Sherrystanfastanley–I didn’t pick her because her name is Sherry but because I could only imagine the horror of the cleaning man vacuuming up her dad’s ashes.
SECOND: Sarah W- I love the line “funerals are for the living.”
THIRD: Donnaeve- OMG!!! You put pledge on grandma! That sounds like something I would have done…lol.
Please send me your snail mail address to aksbetsylerner@gmail.com and you shall received a copy of Nine Years Under.
Thanks to everyone who participated. Even if you didn’t win, you’re not dead.

Yay! Thanks, Sheri (and Betsy). Looking forward to the read!
By the way, I have no idea how you chose a top three. I just went back and re-read all the comments. Looks to me like a terrific anthology in the making.
True!
Great choice on all three but personally I think along with Sheri’s book Donnaeve should get a can of Pledge.
Ha! To this day that smell reminds me of that moment.
Thank you, Sheri and Betsy! I can’t wait to read this book
Thank you Sheri and Betsy!
@Sheri – yes, the funeral director came running (and I do mean running) into the room more freaked out than us. I was laughing by that point, Annette was crying, drinking more tequila and he was wanting to whisk Grandma down the hall for another “bath.” I vetoed it. I mean why? Her hair looked GREAT and it smelled pretty good too. And who would care, really?
Well done, Sherry, Sarah, and Donna!
The talent here always, always makes me smile. Thank you all, and thank you Betsy.
Almost time to head north! I sure hope some of us can link up this weekend. Carolynn? Donna? Betsy? Bueller? Anyone?
Thank you Frank! North…. meaning….where you headed? It would be nice to do that…
hey Frank, I think my husband and I may mosey on over to Mystic this weekend. He’s a stink-potter, they may not let him in.
And I’m feelin’ strong.
Congratulations Sherry, SarahW and Donnaeve!
Thanks MikeD! (that song has been in my head since yesterday)
Oh, no. I’m not dead today, far from it now that DOMA has been struck down.
This is a long time coming. Many of my gay friends are married, but are still forced to sacrifice benefits & civil rights. Most recently my best friend lost her partner of 30 years, and was nailed re. Social Security benefits, even with legal documents in place.
You don’t burn in hell for who you love. God is love, says the Bible. Do the math.
Great consolation prize for the rest of us.
