• Forest for the Trees
  • THE FOREST FOR THE TREES is about writing, publishing and what makes writers tick. This blog is dedicated to the self loathing that afflicts most writers. A community of like-minded malcontents gather here. I post less frequently now, but hopefully with as much vitriol. Please join in! Gluttons for punishment can scroll through the archives.

If Iโ€™ve learned one thing about writers, itโ€™s this: we really are all alone. Thanks for reading. Love, Betsy

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

Dear Readers of this Blog,

One of our own has struck again. Please give it up for Kyler James.

Here’s the first line of his new book, “I’ve always known, ever since I was a little boy, that one day I would kill someone.”ย  BAM. Please wish Kyler well, better yet buy his book. Happy thanksgiving y’all. Try not to kill anyone, especially a loved one.

  1. Congrats Kyler!! Here’s to fame & fortune or at least a lift out of obscurity. All the best with it.

  2. Betsy, you couldn’t have picked a more apropos song title! And love how you segued the first line into possible Thanksgiving killings, haha. I’ll try hard this year ๐Ÿ˜‰ Love, Kyler

  3. Wow, Kyler! I love the cover, but that first line’s a killer! (can’t help myself) Congratulations, celebrate all the moments!

And here’s to maintaining sanity until we land the other side of Thanksgiving.

  4. Another chorus of congrats from my little corner. Hope it is the start to a great, new, adventure.

  5. Congratulations, Kyler! May your book carry you to Olympian heights.

    • Hey Tetman – yes, there is an Olympus scene in there, but don’t want to give it away. Ended up cutting a Nietzsche quotation and replaced it with one of my own. 2 references to Nietzsche is enough, I think. Thanks!

  6. Many congrats on the new book! Enjoy all of it.

But damn. I saw you in Wash. Sq. Park last month but had no clue you were Kyler from Betsy’s place. There was an aura of peace around you even amidst the large pre-halloween crowd. I was visiting from Boston and was rushing to dinner. You smiled. I nodded, but kept racing along. Wished, at least, to have shaken your hand. But thanks for the smile, which is a huge gift in NYC.

  7. Congratulations, Kyler! And I love the title.
